US President Trump has set a time limit to Hamas, requiring them to agree to a proposed ceasefire agreement for the Gaza region or else risk extreme actions.

Via a post on his online account on the end of the week, the President declared that an agreement must be finalized by 6 PM EST (22:00 GMT) on Sunday.

This suggested agreement involves an prompt cessation to fighting and the release within three days of twenty living Israeli hostages captured by Hamas—plus the bodies of individuals believed to be deceased—in return for hundreds of arrested Palestinians.

Arab and Turkish intermediaries are believed to be encouraging the organization for a agreeable reply to the offer, but a prominent group representative has suggested that the militant group is expected to refuse it.

"If this ULTIMATE settlement is not secured, severe retaliation, like no one has before experienced, will occur against the group. WE WILL ENSURE CALM IN THE MIDDLE EAST NO MATTER WHAT," the President stated in the online update.

Another obstacle for some in Hamas is that the agreement demands them to surrender the entirety of the hostages over the opening three-day period of the ceasefire—surrendering their only leverage point.

There are believed to be forty-eight detainees still being detained in the Palestinian territory by the militant group, merely 20 of whom are estimated to be living.

The Israeli defense forces initiated a operation in Gaza in retaliation to the Hamas-led assault on the region on 7 October 2023, in which approximately over a thousand people were lost their lives and hundreds others were seized.
