The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
