The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to manage Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that returning someday is a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the league title last season, but many fans holding him in high esteem would welcome the possibility that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I won't manage another team on English soil. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, so I might decide later on, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on what circumstances would have to unfold to bring him back to the touchline, he revealed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, however, dining out alongside the squad talking freely, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits in the building. I still have Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly for his successor, praising him due to the changes that took the title last campaign. They've been defeated a string of losses across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, though he denied the idea that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, incredible player. It’s a really good well-judged squad. No need for concern over the club, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad without him in it. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. It was an incredible shock for his teammates too. No one within the club would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Handling this on a personal level is difficult. Overwhelming.”
