Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
