The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his team can persist in handling with player absences after disclosing that attacker Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

Havertz has been out since the summer after undergoing knee surgery. Initially expected to return sooner, the manager stated the player faced a hurdle when increasing his recovery and was unable to move forward “the required stage.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a team that is much more reliable and has more options,” Arteta said.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This update leaves a dilemma for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between persisting with Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position last weekend, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus remains an option following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Persist

Further fitness issues affect centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the weekend encounter. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to continue in the heart of the defence for the league leaders.

The manager is convinced the significant outlay on new players during the summer has left Arsenal in a far better place to handle such absences.

Greater Options Key to Title Challenge

Questioned if increased squad depth was helping their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Indeed, since the current term has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now what’s happening with the defence,” he added.

“History has shown us that we have to use players in different positions, and they must be capable to perform various functions if we are to fight at the top. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Star

Addressing the delay highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered additional context. “He was doing everything. He was unable to progress to the subsequent stage and now it’s looking like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his eagerness to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. Truly, Havertz is someone that, personally, I admire greatly for his contributions to the team, but his mentality, his attitude. I watch him struggle while sidelined.”
