Ex- National Football League Athlete Antonio Brown Files Innocent Plea in Murder Attempt Case
Former NFL star Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to face an attempted murder charge stemming from a gunfire that occurred in May, as his lawyer entering a innocent declaration on his behalf.
Correctional logs in Essex County, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his relocation to Florida. Brown, one of the most popular athletes in the NFL, had forgone extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was detained after being taken into custody in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an message that he has earlier lodged a written not guilty plea to the attempted murder accusation. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as early as Wednesday morning for a bail session, Eiglarsh added.
Based on his arrest warrant, Brown is accused of grabbing a pistol from a protection employee after a celebrity match bout in May and firing a couple of shots at a man he had confronted with earlier. The claimed target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed authorities that one of the bullets scraped his throat.
Eiglarsh stated that Brown was only safeguarding himself from Nantambu.
“The steps he was forced to take were purely in self-defense against the claimed person’s aggressive conduct. Brown was targeted that time and responded within his lawful entitlement to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not right away arrested because initially police did not identify Nantambu as a affected party. It not until subsequently in May that Nantambu delivered a detailed account about the situation to police and identified Brown as the gunman, the affidavit says.
From his digital posts, Brown had been staying in Dubai for several months. In a message after the incident, Brown claimed he was defending himself because he was “assaulted by multiple persons who attempted to rob my possessions and cause physical harm to me.”
A category two murder attempt accusation in the state of Florida carries a maximum 15-year jail sentence and up to a ten thousand dollar fee in the case of a conviction.
Brown has faced numerous judicial challenges over the time. He earlier had been alleged of physical attack of a vehicle employee, several abuse accusations, neglect to pay parental support and additional occurrences.
In a 2021 contest with his team against the Jets, Brown stripped off his uniform, equipment and accessories and exited the arena, resulting in his dismissal by the team and virtually concluding his football career.
Brown, who had a dozen years in the National Football League, was an elite player who spent the majority of his career with the Steelers. During his career, Brown had nine hundred twenty-eight receptions for more than twelve thousand two hundred ninety-one yards, the 28th greatest of history. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl pick.
