Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior official commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
