Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell such as this with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we will always battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
